Four Days at Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino

This past weekend my aunt and uncle visited us here in Santo Domingo. For four days we had an awesome time lounging by the pool, eating, going to the casino, and seeing some sights. I have written about a week in Santo Domingo and what you can see and do while here, but this trip was a little different. Although Santo Domingo is a major city with lots to do, sometimes you just want to relax by the pool while on vacation. Many believe they have to travel to the resort towns for a relaxing time, but Santo Domingo doesn’t fall short of a tropical island-y vacation.

We picked them up at the airport and drove to the hotel where they would be staying while seeing some of the colonial architecture on the drive through the city. The hotel,  Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel and Casino was nothing short of excellent. I would absolutely recommend this as a hotel for anyone visiting Santo Domingo. Located on the Malecon, you are facing views of the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The Malecon is lined with hotels, casinos, restaurants, and horse and carriages. It has a wide walking/jogging/biking path along the water lined with different places to eat. This hotel is in the perfect location. If you’re looking for a hotel that feels like a resort while in the city, this is the place to stay.

When you enter, you are greeted with a luxurious and contemporary feel. The hotel boasts a casino, restaurant, bar, coffee/bakery shop, resort style pool including a bar and cabanas, spa, salon, car rental desks, gym, tennis court, and a gift shop. It has literally everything you could need for an unforgettable stay.  Not only that, but there are many lounge areas and lush tropical gardens where you can hang out. The hotel is glamorous, gorgeous, and they provide you with excellent service. It’s an ideal way to stay in the city in a unique and memorable way. You have the convenience of a great location with the feel of being at a resort. If you’re in Santo Domingo for a short time and want to check it out, they also offer day passes and Sunday brunch where you get a buffet, champagne, and use of the pool.

When we arrived it was lunch time, so we headed to Luna Tapas Bar & Restaurant located inside. The layout and furniture were super unique and the food was awesome also. The staff at the restaurant were great and the food was delicious. Our waitress even went and found some tres leches cake which wasn’t on the menu, just because we asked.

After lunch, we checked out their room which included a bedroom, living room, and dining area. Both the living room and bedroom had ocean views. The decor is modern with a bit of a Miami feel. Again, it did not disappoint.

One unique feature at this hotel is you can opt for the executive lounge for a small fee which you can have breakfast or dinner at, included. This was one of our favorite parts of the hotel, besides the pool and spa. The food here was great and you can dine at a table or couches with a view of the sea.

The outdoor pool at this hotel is based the same way a pool at a resort would be and you still have sea views  while swimming. It was beautiful with a luxurious and modern atmosphere. The pictures speak for themselves. With a full bar and restaurant this pool did not fall short. We spent the majority of the four days here.

On the second full day, my aunt and I got 90 minute massages at the Zui Spa which was definitely a highlight of the long weekend. The spa includes a sauna, steam room, relaxation area, jacuzzi, and aromatherapy room which you can use before or after your services. It was so relaxing, we were ready for naps afterward and spent the rest of the day lounging poolside.

The last day, we went to Zona Colonial to see some of the sights, do some shopping, and visit the First Cathedral of the New World. This is a must see if you are visiting Santo Domingo.

For the four days we visited with my family, we had an awesome time. The Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel and Casino is definitely somewhere I would stay and recommend to check out even for just a day pass. It will not disappoint!
