Here are just a few of the top places on my ultimate wanderlust list!
Hang out with Elephants in Thailand
At Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, for $46 usd you can spend the day with these majestic creatures. The day tour includes taking a walk with them, bathing them, and having lunch with them. Although Thailand is filled with places to see elephants, make sure to choose a reputable place which rescues and rehabilitates these intelligent mammals such as Wildlife Friends Foundation. Other reputable sanctuaries are Elephant Nature Park and Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary. This has been something I have wanted to do for as long as I can remember. Elephants are my favorite animal and I think getting to spend the day with them while they are being rehabilitated and reintroduced into the wild would be the ultimate experience.
Swim in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland
The Blue Lagoon in Iceland is one of the most visited sites in all of Iceland although it is quite a far distance from Reykjavik. This geothermal spa boasts average water temperatures of 99-102 degree Fahrenheit. The water is rich in minerals which are said to help people suffering from different skin issues like psoriasis.
Hot Air Balloon in Cappodocia, Turkey
I haven’t been in a hot air balloon yet, but when I do what other place than with the extraordinary landscape of Cappodocia below you. This view looks like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
Float in the Dead Sea
Isreal in general is on my travel bucket list but to be able to float in the Dead Sea would be an ultimate check in my book. Because of the unusually high salt content, you will easily float. The Dead Sea is said to have healing effects because of the minerals absorbed while floating which create blood circulation. It has amazing effects on your skin too. Floating in the Dead Sea is just what the doctor ordered I think. Right ?
Dune Surfing/Sandboarding in Huacachina, Peru
I may not be an experienced snowboarder but its never too late to learn to sand board right. Huacachina, which is a town in Peru is surrounded by sand dunes and at the bottom, in the middle, lies a desert lake. Along with sand boarding, a popular experience here is dune buggy riding.
One of my top bucket list items is to see the magical dancing Northern Lights. The Northern Lights which are aurora borealis, light up the sky in fluorescent green, followed by orange and green, and many shades of red, pink, blue, and yellow. This may be one of the most magical places on my wanderlust list. An ultimate way to see the Northern Lights would be to spend a night in one of the glass top igloos.
While I was supposed to be in Istanbul last year, our trip changed last minute and we ended up in Montenegro, which was beyond beautiful. But Istanbul remains on my list of places to visit. Cruise through Bosphorus, see the Hagia Sophia, and visit the Grand Bazaar are just a few of the amazing things to do and see while in Istanbul, Turkey.
Visit the Souks of Marrakech
Marrakech, Morocco should have been at the top of this list just to show how much I lust to go there. My fiancé and I have even considered this to be our honeymoon location. Marrakech is filled with souks or markets, where all five of your senses will come alive. Filled with orange and pink colors, this city is enchanting and mesmerizing. Make sure to try the local foods and buy an authentic moroccan rug.
Visit the Salt Flats in Bolivia
The salt flats in Salar De Uyani of Bolivia are the largest in the world. Make sure to visit the stunning salt flats on a 3 or 4 day tour to get the full experience. Depending on the time of year you can have two different experiences here. During the rainy season you can get the reflective mirror effect. During the dry season you can drive across because the ground has hardened and you are able to get to spots not accessible during the rainy season.
Safari during the Great Wildebeest Migration
A safari in Africa would be amazing at any time. But what makes it extraordinary during the Great Migration is that you can see thousands of animals galloping across the plains. Im sure it would be exhilarating along with a bit scary to see.
Visit Dubrovnik, Croatia
Dubrovnik is filled with cathedrals, forts, and medieval structures and architecture. No visit to Croatia would be complete without a walk through the city walls of Dubrovnik.
Sunbathe on the Beaches of Mykonos
I have been to Greece already and while I was there I got to visit Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Athens, and Corfu. All of these are on my top list to travel to again, but Mykonos was amazing. Crystal clear waters with all white structures in the town were my top memories here. Don’t forget to pick up some baklava for desert.
Have you ever been to any of the places mentioned ? What’s on your ultimate wanderlust list ?
